Idle Facts:

Emissions from diesel engines contribute to a variety of air
quality problems and may affect the health of those living, working and going
to school in areas where diesel emissions are present.  Long-duration truck
engine idling has a significant impact on our environment and economy.

Annually over 1 billion gallons of diesel fuel is consumed while idling at
an annual cost of over $3 billion dollars.

The trucking industry employs 9.9 million Americans.

Truck drivers average 500 miles per day and work 26+ days a month.

Trucks idle 40-60% of the work time as drivers must rest for 10 hours for
every 11 hours spent driving.

Fuel is the second largest expense, behind labor.

Extended idling causes increased engine maintenance costs and
shortens the engine life.

• Annually, 11 million tons of carbon dioxide, 200,000 tons of oxides of nitrogen, and
5,000 tons of particulate matter are emitted while idling.

Idling attributes to impaired driver rest and health concerns.

Idling causes elevated noise levels.
